More About Trancas Geodes

Trancas geodes are captivating geological formations known for their spherical shapes and the beautiful crystal-lined cavities hidden within. These geodes are primarily found in the area around Trancas in Mexico, which gives them their name.

They’re typically formed in volcanic rock environments where gas bubbles become trapped in the lava and solidify. Over time, mineral-rich groundwater seeps into these voids, depositing crystals like quartz or, less commonly, amethyst, calcite, or other minerals inside the hollow spaces.

The exterior of a Trancas geode is typically rough and unassuming, often resembling ordinary rocks, which makes them easy to overlook. However, when these geodes are cut open, they reveal an internal world of sparkling crystals that can vary in color from clear to shades of purple, depending on the mineral composition. This surprise element makes geodes particularly popular among rock collectors and enthusiasts.
